Stronger Together: A Second Chance Under One Roof

Today marks a powerful milestone in the lives of Yesenia, Jose, and Ricardo, three individuals whose journeys through homelessness, addiction, and trauma have led them to a place of hope, healing—and now—a shared home.

Yesenia, who lost her housing after the Niland flood, faced years of instability while overcoming domestic violence and meth addiction. Her referral to Recuperative Care through the Imperial County Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Program became a turning point. With the help of staff, the support of her partner Ricardo and friend Jose, and her renewed connection to faith and family, she found the stability to begin again. Today, she celebrates not only a new home but a restored life, grounded in community and self-worth.

Jose, after facing incarceration and addiction, entered Recuperative Care determined to change his path. He embraced recovery, continued behavioral health classes, and reconnected with his children and faith. His friendship with Yesenia and Ricardo became a source of strength. Clean for seven months and working on his GED, Jose now moves into a new home with hope for the future and gratitude for a second chance.

Ricardo’s journey began with eight years of addiction and three years of homelessness. His turning point came when his daughter’s struggles inspired him to get clean. At Recuperative Care, he found structure, faith, and a support system through Yesenia and Jose. With dreams of starting a catering business and rebuilding his family, Ricardo steps into this new home ready to continue transforming his life.

Together, these three individuals are not only sharing a home—they are building a future rooted in mutual support, recovery, and resilience. With the continued guidance of the WPCC and Encompass Housing staff, they begin this new chapter not alone, but side by side.
